Krio

If you want to communicate in Sierra Leone, you can speak English.
But if you want to understand people in daily life, Krio is a must!
The official language in Sierra Leone is English.

However, more than 15 independent local languages are spoken in the country. In terms of numbers, the languages “Temne” and “Mende” are the most widespread, spoken by about 60 percent of the total population.
Since the settlement of today’s capital Freetown by returned freed slaves in the 18th and 19th centuries, Krio (Creole) has established itself as the lingua franca and lingua franca. It is a mixture of English, French, Portuguese and African grammatical elements.

On this page you can discover a language course in text(or)book form and thus learn Krio for yourself.

The language course is based on an elaboration of the US-Peace Corps- Sierra Leone.

Furthermore, there are a few colloquial examples of Krio in the following three YouTube videos.
